Cardmaking Social

On December 1st, Cupertino Robotics held its first card-making social during lunch, the first in-person outreach event since the pandemic started. Students used markers, pencils, and their immense creativity to make holiday cards for senior citizens.

Cupertino Robotics’ motto, “Building People, Building Robots” elucidates that the club is about more than just robotics. Student organizer Tiffany, wanting to highlight this aspect of the club, shares her inspiration for coordinating this event. She says, “I wanted to do an outreach event that could create a positive impact in our community rather than just host another STEM related event.” Thus, she reached out to various senior centers and discovered Heart of the Valley Services for Seniors.

After coordinating with the Heart of the Valley Services for Seniors, the outreach team purchased supplies and worked with the club advisor, Mr. Steemer’s, to organize the logistics of the social.

With over 51 cards made, more than what was expected, the social was a success! The social gave members the opportunity to reconnect with each other and provided an outlet for their creativity. Student Raeed Bourai commented on the unique aspects of the social. He said, “it was a fun way of giving back to the community in a way that we don’t usually have the opportunity to do”. He expanded to say, “It was great being in an environment where students wrote and decorated cards together”. Cupertino Robotics provided students with the opportunity to connect with senior citizens, a part of the local community that they might have not interacted with otherwise.
